Germany’s bonds rose, with 10-year yields falling the most in three weeks, as Chancellor Angela Merkel said Greece is running out of time to reach an agreement with international lenders to obtain another bailout.
Ten-year bunds advanced for the first time in four days as a gathering of Greek political leaders was delayed until tomorrow as they struggled for a unified response to the demands of the European Commission, International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank. Dutch notes also rallied as investors sought safer assets. French two-year yields reached a record low as the country auctioned bills. “The Greek deadline is looming over the markets and the uncertainty helps underpin demand for bunds,” said Michael Leister, a fixed-income strategist at DZ Bank AG in Frankfurt. “No one is convinced yet that an agreement will go through.” Dynamic Wealth Management News Updates

J. H. Turner and Albert Deyo were carpenters, Jerry and George Sheffield, Charles H. Stutesman and Chester Whelch, who were small boys, helped to raise the building. A site had been purchased from William Onweller Sr. for $50. The deed was written December 17, 1864.
Turner and Deyo were to furnish a frame structure complete for $2300. Joseph Brown built it. The building was completed within contract time and was dedicated on December 21, 1865 as a house of worship. East Chesterfield was the only church in Chesterfield Township at the time. It is the oldest active Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church and one of the oldest church buildings in Fulton County. The church family has always been close and active. The Lord still has plans for this country church. The present members still have strong dedication and commitment in keeping our doors open. All are welcome. As Britain's original Chesterfield company...
This is a question we are often asked; the answer is we're not sure! We have customers the world over who have their own ideas; our Canadian customers like to think that Chesterfield is a Canadian word although they refer to any sofa as a Chesterfield. We have done a little research and according to Robert Hendrickson in the Encyclopedia of word and phrase origins, the term chesterfield is commonly applied to a sofa in honour of Philip Stanhope, the forth Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773). However, Hendrickson points out that it is more likely that a latter Earl of Chesterfield invented them, which earl he does not know. At any rate, according to the OED (Oxford English Dictionary), it was used to refer to a couch in 1900. According to Carver in American Regional Dialects the term appears to have come into use in Canada around 1903 and in Northern California about the same time. The Journal of the Canadian Linguistics Association notes chesterfield seems to be in general use throughout Canada, though the usual American sofa is also known and used . Almost everywhere in the U.S chesterfields are cigarettes and nothing more. Here in England, a davenport couch was sometimes referred to as a chesterfield but this is obsolete. In present day England a Chesterfield is now generally accepted to mean a deep buttoned leather sofa with arms that are of the same height as the back of the couch. ... More Chinese investment in New Zealand farms and infrastructure will be targeted by the Government.
Prime Minister John Key today released a strategy to double trade with the Asian super power by 2015, saying it is critical for the country’s financial wellbeing. Opening Our Doors to China has taken over a year to develop and comes as public anger grows over farm land sales to foreigners, particularly the Crafar farms bought by a Chinese company. The idea of Chinese investors taking over the Crafar farms has not sat well with many and the Green Party says the farms were sacrificed for the sake of a stronger relationship with China. But Key is eager to develop the relationship with Beijing, believing New Zealand can be prosperous on the back of “probably the fastest growing economy in the world”. “They’re our second largest market…by 2020 they’re likely to be the largest economy in the world,” said Key. Remarkable benefits The New Zealand – China strategy is designed to double two-way trade with the People’s Republic to $20 billions by 2015. It aims to increase the number of Chinese students in NZ, assist NZ food, beverage and agribusiness exporters and target Chinese investment in infrastructure and farmland. The strategy would mean more sales like the Crafar farms which the Greens say was approved to facilitate the broader strategy of the China/New Zeala... What do tech giants like Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola, Dell, HP, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, fierce competitors in the marketplace — all have in common? They all have their products manufactured by Taiwanese company, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd — an electronics manufacturing company, better known by its trading name Foxconn. And at the moment all these tech stalwarts risk having their image seriously tarnished, thanks to some tragic events which have taken place over the past few years at Foxconn’s factories in China.
Products such as the iPhone, iPad, Xbox 360, Kindle, and PlayStation 3, are manufactured by Foxconn at their plants in China, where an estimated 26 employees have attempted suicide since 2007, including eighteen in 2010, resulting in 14 deaths. Foxconn, of course, manufactures over 50% of the world’s electronics, and is Apple’s primary manufacturer. « previous next » |
